AIChE, founded in 1908, is a professional society of more than 60,000 chemical engineers in 110 countries. Its members work in corporations, universities, and government, using their knowledge of chemical processes to develop safe and useful products for the benefit of society. AIChE fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge, supports the professional and personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its members to address societal needs and improve the quality of life. Through its varied programs, AIChE continues to be a focal point for information exchange on the frontiers of chemical engineering research in such areas as energy, sustainability, biological and environmental engineering, nanotechnology, and chemical plant safety and security.

Position Summary

In this highly visible role, the successful incumbent will be crucial to business growth. The focus is on identifying, qualifying, and capturing new sales opportunities for AIChE’s existing conferences and new meetings. Conference topics include: chemical engineering R&D and process technologies, biological engineering, process intensification, and sustainability. You will engage customers and create sales opportunities for exhibits, sponsorships, conference associated advertising, and webinars. Job success is based on the ability to utilize market segmentation strategies, analyze the various companies, the climate and create a value proposition relating to AIChE conferences. The person in this role will work closely with the Associate Director of Sales and the Senior Director of Business Solutions, as well as, the larger AIChE organization, to grow conference sponsorship and exhibit revenue.

Responsibilities

Grow sponsorship and exhibit revenue for a portfolio of AIChE conferences as assigned. These conferences may include, but are not limited to the following events:

AIChE Annual Meeting
AIChE Spring Meeting & Global Congress on Process Safety
Conferences organized by the Society for Biological Engineering – including Metabolic Engineering, Synthetic Biology and Accelerating Biopharmaceutical Development
Conferences organized by the Center for Chemical Process Safety
Conferences organized by the RAPID Manufacturing Institute for Process Intensification
Conferences dedicated to Process Development and Technology and other established or emerging areas relevant to Chemical Engineers and related professions
Maintain and grow business with current AIChE conference sponsor and exhibitors
Identify and prospect new companies and market segments to exhibit at AIChE conferences
Develop new sponsor and exhibit products that can help to grow revenue at AIChE conferences
Work within AIChE and with customers to ensure the deliverables associated with the sponsorship are executed
Collaborate with AIChE staff to leverage existing relationships
Build relationships with existing and potential customers
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all department (some travel may be required in the future)

Skills

Researching (ORM-online research methods, non-print, journals, customer data etc.)
Generating client business and grow new accounts
Selling high-end solutions to key stakeholders
Prioritizing multiple ongoing projects
Communicating successfully with internal team members, current and potential clients through email, videoconferencing and phone
Building customer relationships
Eliminating sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches; understanding how to link customer needs with tangible exhibitor and sponsor benefits
Industry experience and a technical background is a plus
