The Role

The purpose of this role and your unique contribution is to be part of the operational risk team responsible to drive efficient and effective management of operational risk in the Australian Division. The Lead, Operation Risk assigns, oversees and undertakes risk identification management, mitigation and reporting alongside business owners aligned to the IAG Risk Management Strategy, Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite Statement. This role is a visible advocate for driving risk maturity uplift and improvement in operational risk culture within the Australia Division, and leads activity across the Operational Risk Specialists within the team. A critical success factor for the role is the ability to engage broadly and communicate effectively within IAG to influence a practical understanding of operational risk.

Key Responsibilities:
You will develop and implement the Risk Management Strategy, Risk Frameworks and methodology at a business unit level to increase operational risk maturity as a lead.
You will provide assurance to the interactions we have with our customers to ensure they are receiving service aligned to the correct processes and policy information through associated risk activity.
You will lead the uplift of Risk maturity across Australia via a business partnering model with the Business Unit Risk reps to facilitate the taking of risk within appetite by risk owners.
You will lead business unit risk profiling activity and risk forums alongside the operational risk managers.
You will work with the business unit owners to provide mitigations and plans including coaching, workshops and other activities.
You will co-ordinate and delivers risk-based reviews of businesses process to determine whether they are being executed and managed effectively,

supporting a continuous improvement approach – supporting or coordinating with the Targeted Review Team where necessary

You will co-ordinate and identifies whether the design and execution of controls are adequate and effective in mitigating risks, including establishing a robust control environment through control and process testing.
You will co-ordinate and ensures risk profiles & control test outcomes are regularly updated in the relevant systems e.g. GARi
You will provide incident management oversight and supports the business owners to respond to investigating, managing and resolving incidents and escalations, including the reporting of significant reportable breaches to regulators.
You will drive process excellence through continuous improvement of operations and performance
You will undertake reliable and factual risk reporting through necessary systems and processes, including oversight of incidents
You will certify compliance with our policies, procedures, contracts, applicable laws and regulations alongside the Compliance Leads
You will lead, assign and oversee activity of Risk Specialists
You will provide coaching to increase the technical skills and capability of others within the function
You will promote the embedment of risk maturity in the business and a proactive risk management culture

Skills & Experience

Experience in General Insurance or financial services industry, and exposure to risk management or compliance roles.
You will have strong People Leadership experience along with demonstrated experience in Control Testing.
You will be an analytical thinker and have knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis.
You will have knowledge of issues, opportunities and challenges for conducting business in the international marketplace and have the ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
You will have knowledge of the insurance industries trends, directions and major issues and regulatory considerations along with strong business acumen.
Tertiary qualification/s in Economics /Accounting / Finance / Law or related fields desired.
Relevant industry or specialism qualifications e.g.: ANZIIF, AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 (Risk management -principles and guidelines)
