The Role

The purpose of this role and your unique contribution is to be part of the operational risk team responsible to drive efficient and effective management of operational risk across our Direct Insurance Business. The Consultant, Operational Risk provides risk identification management, review, mitigation and reporting alongside business owners aligned to the IAG Risk Management Strategy, Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite Statement. This role is a visible advocate for driving risk maturity uplift and improvement in operational risk culture within the divisions. A critical success factor for the role is the ability to engage broadly and communicate effectively within IAG to influence a practical understanding of operational risk.

Key Responsibilities:
You will support the development and implementation of the Risk Management Strategy, Risk frameworks and methodology of Australia Division to increase operational risk maturity across business units.
You will provide assurance to the interactions we have with our customers to ensure they are receiving service aligned to the correct processes and policy information through associated risk activity.
You will uplift Risk Maturity via a business partnering model with the business unit risk reps to facilitate the taking of risk within appetite by risk owners.
You will participate and/or facilitate in risk profiling activity along with the operational risk leads and managers.
You will work with business owners to provide mitigations and plans, including coaching, workshops and other activities.
You will deliver risk-based reviews of business process to determine whether they are being execute and managed effectively, supporting a continuous improvement approach.
You will assess and identify whether the design and execution of controls are adequate and effective in mitigating risks, including establishing a robust control environment.
You will facilitate and support risk assessments and reporting for key business initiatives and projects and maintain effective systems and processes for receiving and implementing new regulatory obligations.
You will embed risk maturity in the business as well as a pro-active risk management culture.

Skills & Experience

Experience in General Insurance or financial services industry, and exposure to risk management or compliance roles.
You will have demonstrated experience within Control Testing
You will be an analytical thinker and have knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis.
You will have knowledge of issues, opportunities and challenges for conducting business in the international marketplace and have the ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
You will have knowledge of the insurance industries trends, directions and major issues and regulatory considerations along with strong business acumen.
Tertiary qualification/s in Economics /Accounting / Finance / Law or related fields desired.
Relevant industry or specialism qualifications e.g.: ANZIIF, AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 (Risk management -principles and guidelines)
