Casual Medical Receptionist, Mascot

About us:

Mascot Medical is an established doctor-owned practice conveniently located at Mascot Central/Etherden Walk across from Mascot Train Station. We are an accredited medical practice, with a team of health professionals dedicated to providing the community with personalised, professional and quality healthcare across a wide range of medical and support services.

We are looking for a long term team member to join our professional and friendly team at Mascot to work weekly on Sundays. The position is offered as an ongoing casual basis, however hours will be regular, and the role will be reviewed at 6 monthly intervals. Some flexibility is expected to assist with practice changes.

About the role:

  • Casual position with regular hours on Sundays 9:00 to 14:00
  • Medical Reception experience essential, as we’re looking for someone to hit the ground running and with minimal training
  • Best Practice clinical software experience
  • Long term team member to grow with the practice

Duties to be performed:

  • Open and closing of the practice
  • Meeting, greeting and checking-in patients and visitors to the practice
  • Answering telephone calls and all patient queries
  • Send and respond to emails and e-faxes
  • Booking patient appointments
  • Billing and receipting payment (private, third party, Medicare), including EFTPOS and cash handling
  • Scanning/uploading reports and letters, and shredding paper records
  • General housekeeping and infection control policies
  • Miscellaneous tasks as required by other team members

Essential requirements:

  • Availability to start ASAP
  • Previous experience in a private billing General Practice using Best Practice clinical software
  • Adhere to strict patient, staff, and practice privacy and confidentiality
  • Basic Life Support or CPR certificate, obtained within the last 2 years
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise
  • Attention to detail*
  • Good communication skills and fluency in English (proficiency in other languages is highly advantageous)
  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team
  • Intermediate computer literacy, including use of Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Well presented and punctual
  • Must have a PRODA account
  • Must have the right to permanently live and work in Australia

Desirable requirements:

  • Knowledge of Medicare, DVA, WorkCover/CTP and Allied Health billing information
  • Triage training certificate or to be completed within 6 months of starting
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Training Certificate or to be completed within 2 weeks of start date
  • Some flexibility with work hours – practice is open 7 days
  • *Include in your cover letter a haiku about your favourite colour
  • Willing to provide leave cover, sometimes at short notice

Hours of work:

Sunday 9-2pm, regular hours

Monday-Saturday, as required


Starting from $35 per hour, depending on experience
