The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Reproductive Genetics team.

The Reproductive Genetics Carrier Screening (RGCS) laboratory provides a reproductive screening service based on a combination of laboratory workflows. The laboratory aims to be an innovative leader in the provision of reproductive genetic carrier screening analysis at a national and international level.

A key part of this role will assist with the delivery of cystic fibrosis (CF), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and Fragile X testing associated with the prepair™ genetic carrier screening test. As well as cascade and diagnostic testing for CF and SMA.

To be successful in this role you will have previous experience with genetic testing and are confident in all steps of preparation and processing of samples in a high-throughput facility.

Your role will vary from maintenance, and monitoring of instruments and equipment, reviewing of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as well as use and maintenance of the laboratory information management (LabWare LIMS) and the quality management (QPulse) systems.

You are a team player, enthusiastic and have a proven ability to engage and foster key relationships.

As this role will see you work with a number of stakeholders such as laboratory technicians, laboratory scientists and genetic counsellors it is essential you have excellent communication skills.

You are ready to bring value to this role through your passion and technical skills but also understand the value you will bring to Children’s future health.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide technical support within laboratory
Preparing samples for testing
Managing supplies of laboratory reagents and consumables
Data entry into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for specimen and laboratory processes
Operation of laboratory equipment including automated liquid handlers, ABI 3730 system, Roche LightCycler480, and thermocyclers
Maintaining laboratory and quality system records

You Demonstrate:
A Certificate/Diploma in related discipline (Medical Laboratory) or equivalent
Understanding of specimen reception and patient information
Ability to work to a high standard and speed during times of stress and high-volume workload
Ability to effectively prioritise workload and other activities throughout the day
Demonstrable understanding of a wide range of molecular genetic techniques and technologies
Previous experience within a diagnostic laboratory under NATA accreditation
Experience with liquid handlers is desirable

12 month Full time contract
$60,337 – $74,018 + Super + salary packaging ,
