INVESTIGATOR, BUILDING INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH

An opportunity has arisen within NSW Fair Trading’s Building Investigations Branch for an experienced, professional investigator.
Key responsibilities within this position will include, conducting assessments and investigations, in an efficient and effective manner and in accordance with the legislative requirements, available methodologies and departmental guidelines.
As an Investigator you will be responsible for undertaking inquiries and investigations into complaints and other compliance activities relating to the Home Building Industry.
A significant part of this role is to prepare reports and submissions and make recommendations for appropriate action on matters investigated. The position also requires experience in preparing witness statements, briefs of evidence and to present evidence for Court proceedings.
You will use analytical and problem solving skills together with knowledge of legislative provisions to conduct investigations to ensure that NSW Fair Trading safeguards consumer rights and advises business and traders on fair and ethical practice.
To be successful in this role you will have extensive relevant experience in the conducting of investigations or equivalent, along with previous experience in the preparation of complex investigation reports and briefs of evidence. Furthermore, you will also have strong written communication skills including preparation of correspondence, reports and submissions with the ability to manage and prioritise cases in a high volume environment.
You must have exceptional communication skills and be able to communicate at all levels both internally and externally.
- Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or preparedness to undertake an identical or similar employer-sponsored program.
- Have experience of the formal conduct of investigations, evidence gathering and review process.
- Current NSW driver’s licence and ability and willingness to travel throughout the state when required.
