Dairy Australia is the national services body for the dairy industry. WestVic Dairy is the Regional Development Program of Dairy Australia in western Victoria and is governed by a board of six farmers and two service providers. Western Victoria is currently the largest dairy region in Australia, producing 23% of Australia’s milk. The 2.15 billion litres of milk is worth $880 million at farm gate and $1.8 billion after processing.
WestVic Dairy are looking for a part-time Communications Officer to work alongside the Marketing & Communications Officer in completing communications activities for WestVic Dairy. This role is a part time, 3 day per week fixed term contract.
The key responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):
Working with the Marketing & Communications Officer, to complete the communications activities for WestVic Dairy
Developing and delivering media campaigns and presentations
Working with key WestVic Dairy stakeholders to increase engagement and communication through a range of tactics including website, newsletters and social media
Providing high level customer service to the region’s dairy farmers and key partners, and within the WestVic Dairy organisation
Communicating the region’s positive dairy farming success stories across the region
1. Farmer Engagement
Assist the Executive Officer to maintain effective communication and build relationships with the region’s farmers, to support extension planning and delivery
Liaising with Dairy Australia on emerging issues and assist in delivering programs to the region’s farmers in line with these priorities
Assist the Executive Officer by managing and delivering best practice activities for WestVic Dairy by:
Liaising regularly with Dairy Australia and the RDP communications staff
Implementing the annual Communications Plan for WVD
Coordinating contact between WVD and the media, for the purposes of media releases/interviews and supporting colleagues in their response
Editing publications and coordinating the contact between WVD and publishing partners/external contributors and supporting colleagues in their contributions
Planning, developing and placing advertising
Coordination of scheduling, production and distribution of promotional material for extension activities and other projects (both old and new media)
Providing staff with support in preparation of presentations and speeches
Managing the WVD website content and performance
Monitoring, analysis and reporting of communications statistics
Supporting the Marketing & Communications officer with social media as required
3. Board Support
Assist the Executive Officer and the Project Coordinator in delivering support to the Board and Board Executive Committee, especially in relation to communications matters
Assist with key documents such as; Proposals, Annual Report, Strategic Plan and similar special projects and reports, presentations & speeches.
To be successful in this role you will need:
Demonstrated high level of communication, media and marketing skills
Experience with Microsoft products, PDF Adobe, Adobe Editor
Experience in the use of a Customer Relationship Management system, ideally with Salesforce
Ability to maintain and develop networks in the agricultural media sector
Capacity to liaise and consult effectively with personnel at all levels, within and external to the organisation; and
High level editorial experience/knowledge of IT systems/content management/social media (including website maintenance)
Ideally a strong understanding of the Australian dairy industry and the issues facing dairy farmers
Ideally photographic and video-graphic skills
Relevant tertiary qualification and/or industry experience e.g. business management, marketing and communications
Current driver’s license
